Conflict Free Jewelry
Conflict diamonds and blood diamonds are a real issue in the world today. That’s why we purchase all of our new diamonds from sellers who participate in the Kimberly Certification Process. This was established in 2003 to prevent diamond sales from financing the conflicts in Africa. Therfore, our antique and vintage diamonds are original to their rings and are not associated with modern conflicts.
We will provide our customers with accurate information regarding your diamonds and diamond purchases.
The Kimberley Process is a joint governments industry and civil society initiative. It acts to stem the flow of conflict diamonds, or rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was created in 2000 when Southern African diamond-producing states met in Kimberly, South Africa to discuss a way to stop trade in conflict diamonds. With that being said, the goal remains to trade and sell conflict free jewelry.
The KPCS imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as Conflict-Free. As a result, this prevents conflict diamonds from entering legitimate trade. At the same time, participants of the Kimberly Process may only trade with other members who have met minimum requirements of the scheme. Since the inception of the Kimberly Process, diamond experts estimate that a fraction of 1% of diamonds in international trade are conflict diamonds compared to 15% in the 1990’s.
